SilverShadow Photography by Shannonn Eckstein

I am uncomfortable in front of the camera - I dislike being photographed.

Does this sound like you? You're not alone- most adults say they prefer not to be photographed. But do you ever notice how some people never take a bad picture? What makes someone photogenic?

I always say: "love the camera - the camera will love you". The key to great photographs is to be relaxed, natural and trust the photographer. My job is to use everything in my tool box to make you look and feel amazing. Really great photographs come from collaboration between a photographer and the subject.

What do I wear?

Make simple clothing choices such as dark solid colors, timeless styles. Avoid trendy outfits for your photography session, patterns, logos, and large jewellery (especially watches and chunky necklaces).

I also suggest avoiding coats, if the weather is a bit cooler it's better to wear several layers such as long sleeves, pants, sweaters on yourself and your children.

What about hair and makeup?

Keep it simple, use more foundation to give the skin an even tone, nice long lashes and full penciled lips but avoid eye shadows and heavy eye liners. Strong eye makeup becomes bolder in black and white photography. Hair should be loose and natural, avoid large hair accessories such as clips or barettes and no hats.

How much is a session fee - what does that include? How long does it take?

A photography session within the GTA is $300, outside the GTA is $350. This fee includes a pre-session and post-session consultation, an online viewing gallery and the family photography experience. This fee is paid on the session date by cash or cheque. The consultations are 30 minutes to one hour. The photography session is from 1 to 2 hours and is either at your home or a location of your choice.

What is a pre-session consultation?

Whether on the phone or in person I find it helpful to discuss your personal photography needs prior to your first booking. The consultation is so we can discuss the style of images you were considering, how you will be displaying the images, your approximate budget and which location would suit you and your family. I like to meet the children when possible, to include them in the process - I find it relaxes and reassures the whole family, setting the stage for a fun stress-free shoot.

What is a post-session consultation?

After the session and once you have had time to look through the images in your personal online gallery, we will meet in my office/showroom to finalize image selections and product choices. All finalized orders require a 50% deposit at this time with cash or cheque. Credit Cards are accepted and there is a 3% surcharge. Another option is direct debit via online banking.

What is an online gallery?

Approximately 10 days after the photography session, you will receive a link to an online image gallery allowing you to view your images from the comfort of your home or office. I post the gallery complimentary for 30 days if you decide you need an extension on your gallery, you will be charged $30 per month. I suggest going through the images two or three times before tagging your picks and placing them in the favorites folder. I can access your favorites folder and see what choices you have made and then we can book your post-session consultation where I am happy to assist in final decisions.
